Music Magazine - Final Product

I added an advert into my magazine. I added the advert I did specifically because it related to music in general but also specifically to electronic music as the advert looks very like the electronic music genre would be portrait and represented as. The colour and patterns also relate to electronic music as electricity is always represented as being blue, which has been done in the advert.

I created a second contents page flat plan to use as I did not like the layout of the first because it did not have enough spaces for all the contents page article headings and their information.

I may also use the bottom left or bottom right typeface for my masthead because they also look bold, edgy and futuristic, which relates to electronic music in the way it sounds.

I will most probably use the typeface second down on the right because it is very unique and bold.

Music Magazine - Picking The Name

I found and thought of a few words that related to electricity so that it linked in with the idea of making a magazine related to electronic music. 

Red = Personally the worst

Orange = Personally average

Green = Best chosen

I chose Impulse because it relates to electricity, so it also links to the idea of electronic music.

The idea behind the word also holds power which would be attractive to my target audience.

An impulse is the push or pull of still or moving electrons, ions or other charged particles. It is also an emotional urge or desire.

Most of the words I did not choose because they were too weak sounding or had bad or other irrelevant associations.

This is my music magazine questionnaire to research my target audience. I accidentally made a mistake on question 6 where I put "for you pay for" when it was meant to be "for you to pay for". 

Music Magazine Research

I like the layout of this cover because it is centralized and would interest more mature audiences of electronic music. The tidy centralized look also helps emphasize the big chunky typeface style. I like how the image is also centered and is nearly symmetrical. I might create a picture that has a central or symmetrical look to relate to electronic music as the music is usually patterned and harmonic. The people in the main image are young and quirky . This is due to the fact that you would not usually see people waiting these sort of clothes casually.

I changed the rectangle that was behind the social media and Instagram icons. I replaced it with a blue oval as I thought it looked more appealing. I changed the colour of the shape that is behind the flannel panel so it fitted more with the colour scheme. I then changed the flannel panel text as it was blue it would not have been visible.

This is a list of ideas I had for the stories in my contents page. The page numbers would be added chronologically and would be spaced about 2-5 numbers apart depending on how much information I would think each story could hold if it were created.

I went with the idea of calling it Relevant because it would seem up-to-date by it's name and relevant to interests happening at the time. I changed the name after i planned the names because the previous name 'relevance' sounded more like a fashion magazine's name to me.

This image shows the fonts i would like to use in my college magazine cover. I chose them because they look sophisticated but also recognizable. I changed my mind on what I want to call my masthead because Relevance sounded to feminine. I wanted a balance since the audience is of both gender so I changed it to Relevant.

I also changed the font for my coverlines to a font that has less spaced out words when typed with.

  Primary Research - Personal research, initiated by you, doesn't exist, is original.

Examples - Questionnaire, survey, focus group, interviews, etc. 

Secondary Research - Already exists, someone else carried it out.

Examples - Books, the web, reviews, articles, existing magazines, reports, etc. 

Qualitative = Quality information - Who, What, When, Where, Why, etc. 

Quantitative = Quantity information - numbers, percentages, fractions, etc.

What is a magazine?

                  What is a magazine?

A magazine is a publication that is usually sent out to sell periodically, some are hardcopy but some magazines can be published digitally.

The magazine will usually have stories, pictures and information relating to the front image of the magazine or could be generally about films, books, knitting or other different subjects.

Magazines will usually have a masthead that is eye catching to the target audience. Magazines usually have coverlines too which give a little bit more information about what is in the magazine. Puffs or Buzz’s are used to draw the reader in by saying something is ‘free inside’ or something to make a sudden interest for the reader.

The purpose of a magazine is to be interesting to the target audience, by having relevant images and text, this may be a niche or large audience.
